March 12, 2009 - Meeting Notes

The TWA 2009 1st Quarter Meeting was held on March 12, 2009 in Nashville, Tennessee at the Old Natchez County Club.  This event was well attended with over 70 participants.  Below is an overview of the meeting's events:

• Janet Gill and Tom Scobie made our association's annual contribution presentation to Michelle Rosen, Executive Director of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. 
• Pat Tant moderated a panel discussion on "Safety is our Life Saver." Panelists discussed important issues such as Safety Standards, Development, Execution, Importance, Awareness, and Enforcement.  Attendees asked the panelists several questions, with a lively discussion regarding the importance of information sharing and partnership between all components of the wireless industry.
• Hunter Stuart provided a legislative update regarding several bills involving the use of cell phones and text messaging while driving.  Local county zoning updates and information regarding current bills was also discussed.
• Mark your calendars for our 4th Annual Joint Meeting of the Tri-State Wireless Associations (AL-GA-TN) on June 4-5, 2009 in Chattanooga, Tennessee at the Sheraton Read House.  More information to follow.

December 11, 2008 - Holiday Social

Our annual Holiday Social was held in Nashville at the Old Natchez Country Club on Thursday evening, December 11th.  The city was hit with a snow and ice storm that kept many people from attending.  Those who braved the weather enjoyed an ample supply of food and beverages, along with the warmth of industry friends.  Thanks again to our sponsors who make this annual event possible.  Happy Holidays!

September 11, 2008 Meeting Minutes

Below is an overview of our September 11th meeting held in Nashville:

• Welcome by Janet Gill.
• Legislative Update - Nathan Ridley provided a legislative update and encouraged everyone to register to vote in the national presidential election. 
• Minnie Pearl Foundation - Janet Gill and Sandra Abernathy presented a check to the Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation for $33, 298.18 representing proceeds from the Jon Hastings Memorial Golf Tournament.  The total contributed over the last four years is $128,500.37! 
• Guest Speaker - Our guest speaker, Rich Biby, Publisher of AGL Magazine and CTO, Waterford Consultants provided an excellent overview of the industry.

June 5-6, 2008 - TN-AL-GA Conference

The Third Annual Joint Tennessee - Alabama - Georgia Wireless Association Conference was again a huge success with over 200 attendees in conveniently located Chattanooga, Tennessee on June 5-6, 2008.  Industry sponsors help make this event possible.

An always popular social event was held on Thursday evening.  The conference schedule began Friday morning with educational sessions led by industry experts Jerry Sullivan (Kite Networks) and Jackie McCarthy (PCIA).  The highlight was the luncheon's carrier panelists:  Clay Brogdon (SouthernLINC), Ann Brooks (T-Mobile), Lynn Carlson (Verizon Wireless) and Lee Sargent (AT&T). 

This joint tri-state effort has become a great opportunity to hear major industry speakers as well as network on a regional basis.  Watch for dates for next year's event and make your plans to attend!

March 13, 2008 Meeting Minutes

Our 1st Quarterly Meeting was held on March 13, 2008 in Nashville, Tennessee.  Below is an overview of the meeting's events:

• Janet Gill and Tom Scobie make our association's contribution presentation to Michelle Rosen, Executive Director of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. 
• Nancy Chrisman of PCIA presented an update on the national State Wireless Association Program. 
• Clayton Funk of Media Venture Partners was our guest speaker. Clayton did an excellent job of providing us with an overall snapshot of the wireless industry's trends and forecasts. 
• Updates from the legislative and membership committees were given by Jim Murphy and Rick Elms.
